What does a wheelchair wheel sensor do?
A wheel sensor records how a wheel moves. Push for Gold uses a pair, one on each rear wheel, to work out how your chair moved through a practice or match. After the session, the app groups its takeaways into Work on, Went well and Patterns. Open a takeaway for the numbers, a drill and the moments behind it.
Why use two wheel sensors?
Your rear wheels move differently in a turn. Recording both lets the app work out turning direction, heading and an estimated path, as well as compare the left wheel with the right. A single wheel sensor has only one side of that movement.
The takeaways cover how your chair moved. In wheelchair tennis, for example, you can look at how quickly you turned towards your racquet side and how soon you were rolling again.
What can the app tell me?
Wheel motion is the measurement. From it, the app works out distance, speed, turns and starts. Pushes are inferred from wheel acceleration. The path is an estimate, and court position is also an estimate that needs a court setup. Gaps in the readings stay visible.
Compare your own sessions over time to see what changed. For a court example, read about wheelchair tennis training with session feedback.
How do I fit them?
Mount one sensor on the spokes beside each rear hub, then calibrate them for your chair. Keep the sensors and mounts clear of your brakes and hands, and check the mounts before each session. Keep your iPhone nearby while you record. An Apple Watch can start and finish a session.

Which sports can I record?
Push for Gold records wheelchair tennis, basketball, rugby, racing, pickleball, badminton and handball, as well as handcycling and everyday rolling. The app uses the terms of the sport you choose. Court position needs the corresponding court setup.
